Getting Started
Your judge training checklist
Your coach sent you a checklist. This page says what each step is and what to do.
Open your checklist
- Open the email from DebateFlow.
- Tap Open my checklist.
- Sign in. You do not need an account first. Signing in makes one.
Your checklist opens. Keep the email, so you can get back to it. If you lose it, ask your coach to send the link again.
The five steps
Two steps are open now. The other three are not built yet. They stay on the list so you know you have not missed them.
1. Watch your coach's intro. A short video from your coach. Tap Open video. Then tick I watched it. If it says your coach has not added a video yet, there is nothing to do here.
2. Take the NSDA and NFHS courses. Three free judging courses, on two other websites. Each one asks you to make an account. Tick I completed these courses when you are done.
3. Watch our short videos. Not open yet. Nothing for you to do.
4. Take the quiz. Not open yet.
5. Judge a practice round. Not open yet.
A step that is not open has no button. It does not count against you.
Required and Optional
A step marked Required is one your coach asked for. Optional is up to you.
Your progress counts only the steps that are open. So "2 of 2 steps done" means you are finished, even though the list shows five.
Ticking a box
A tick is you saying you did it. Nobody checks for you. Your coach sees Parent confirmed and the date you ticked it.
Ticked one by mistake? Tap it again to untick it.
If a tick does not save, the box goes back and the row says so. Tap it again.
What your coach sees
Which steps you ticked, and when. That is all.
Your coach never sees a ballot you wrote, a round you judged, or any note you took. Not from a practice round, and not from a real one.
The dates on the page
- Finish by — the date your coach wants this done. It sits beside your progress. Nothing locks after it.
- First tournament — the tournament your coach put in, with the days left until it. The count stops showing once that day has passed.
Both are optional. Your coach may not have set either.
What happens in a real round
Finishing the checklist means your coach can put you on the schedule. It does not mean you have to know debate.
During a round, DebateFlow is a notepad and a timer. It never tells you who is winning. You decide, and it helps you write it down.
